In a short statement to the community, the Senior Director of Global eSports, Whalen "Magus" Rozelle, addressed the plans to implement eSports for Valorant.

High goals in esports

Already in his greeting he points out the problems of everyday life.  He writes that they all come from different areas of eSports and are all big fans of playing and watching FPS games. But - and that's a big but - it is both discouraging and inspiring for them to work on Valorant and keep an eye on the development of their competitive ecosystem. In the end, however, he gives hope again. There is no doubt that Valorant has all the ingredients to be a successful sport. They all have big dreams of what might come out of it, but they want to do it carefully.

In the following he addresses the three core principles that Valorant is supposed to make successful in eSports: competitive integrity, accessibility and authenticity.

Quote from Playvalorant.com : Competitive integrity means that we want budding professionals to have a fair chance of achieving the highest game levels through performance-based competition. We will work tirelessly to ensure that games are won or lost based on a person's skills and teamwork rather than external factors.

Accessibility is our promise that fans and players from all areas will be welcome in the VALORANT community. We strive to deliver the highest quality broadcast experience that brings out the creativity, teamwork and gripping moments that we love about this game while satisfying long-time fans and making it easy for new fans to discover their love of sport .

Authenticity means that we know that this sport belongs to YOU and we hope to build it together with you. We want VALORANT eSports to grow with this community and discover their own voice, talent and stars.

Finally, he goes into the incredibly high interest of the community. You will receive a large number of feedback and questions every day about what eSports will look like in Valorant. But it is too early to talk about details. They want to let Valorant grow and not force anything too quickly before they know what's best for fans. Therefore, the current focus is on forming partnerships, finding authors for content, and organizing tournaments to test diligently.

He goes into that in more detail. The "VALORANT Community Competition Guidelines" are intended to help tournament organizers understand how tournaments are approached by developers. All so that they "can confidently plan events and at the same time leave room for an amateur scene in which new stars can rise." They also opened the "Riot Developer Portal" for developers. There developers can start discussions about tools they want to develop for Valorant.

Finally, Whalen says goodbye with the words: "To all who hope to measure themselves in the VALORANT ecosystem - in ten, twenty, thirty years - we couldn't be more excited to take our first steps with you on this journey!"

In conclusion, I would like to add that Valorant's eSports team would like to connect closely with developers in order to implement their own ideas for a successful eSport for Valorant. Until then, the community, above all external tournament organizers, is required to try out and implement a new idea.
